Perception and Motivation

Emily Balcetis discusses how our body weight and motivation can influence our perception of distance. People with higher waist to hip ratios or BMI tend to see distances as farther, while highly motivated individuals can compensate for this effect and perceive distances similarly to those with lower waist to hip ratios. Our visual experiences are not solely reflective of the external world, but also depend on our body capabilities and brain's ability to supplement.
