The Nature of the Meaning Crisis

Lex Fridman asks John Vervaeke to explain the nature of the meaning crisis in modern times and its origin. Vervaeke explains that the processes that make us intelligent also subject us to perennial problems of self-deception, self-destruction, and creating bullshit for ourselves and others, which can lead to anxiety, despair, and a sense of absurdity. To ameliorate this, humans have come up with ecologies of practices, which is what we call wisdom.
