Overcoming Nightmares
Nightmares can leave individuals in distress, but hope is on the horizon with image rehearsal therapy (IRT). This innovative approach allows people to reframe their nightmares by rewriting their narratives, transforming distressing memories into more neutral ones. By understanding memory reconsolidation, individuals can update and reshape their experiences, offering a pathway to healing and relief from recurring nightmares. In this clip

How does Image Rehearsal Therapy (IRT) work?
How does memory reconsolidation work in the context of episode #49 - Nightmares and Treatment?
I have a question about the episode and Andrew talks about a process to erase fear and traumas, and he says that first you need to extinguish the fear or trauma by retelling the narrative. The whole point of that is to diminish the physiological response, right? If the goal is to diminish the physiological response, then if the person works to change their physiological response immediately after being triggered, would that over time also diminish the physiological response and therefore break the conditioning? Am I right?
