If you wake up before sunrise, recommends trying to get sunlight exposure as soon as possible after waking up, but if the sun isn't up yet, you should turn on as many bright artificial lights as you can. This helps to stimulate the wakefulness mechanisms in your brain. Once the sun rises, make an effort to get outside and expose yourself to natural sunlight, even if it is overcast, as natural light is much more effective than artificial light in activating these mechanisms 1 2.
