Does more testosterone lead to less DHT?
Sources:
Higher levels of testosterone do not inherently lead to lower levels of dihydrotestosterone (DHT). In fact, testosterone is converted into DHT through the enzyme 5-alpha reductase. DHT acts on androgen receptors with greater affinity than regular testosterone and is responsible for various physiological effects, including the promotion of baldness through hair follicle changes, as well as certain aspects of male vigor and libido 1.
While some treatments for conditions like hair loss work by inhibiting the conversion of testosterone to DHT (thus reducing DHT levels), this does not imply that higher testosterone directly reduces DHT. Instead, these treatments aim to prevent high DHT levels that can lead to undesired effects like hair loss 2.
