• Andrew, my name is Stacie and I simply love your content! My husband and I listen all of the time. I have a question for you! My father whom is know 78 years young was burned 90% of his body when I was 5 months old (3rd degree). He has endured many years of open wounds on his legs from skin grafts. He has had both knees replaced and upon the second one has had trouble with a wound that has been in the same spot for over 25 years. He has been to lymphatic specialist whom has worked with him for several weeks. He is experiencing swelling in both legs to the point where his skin is tearing at the ankles, let’s say weeping fluid. His doctor has recently put him on a diuretic to try and get some of the excess water out of the system. He also has a condition called Dermetomyosites . I believe it is auto immune. He also has hypothyroidism. The doctors seem to put him on steroids and antibiotics frequently I am unsure of why. Do you have any info that you can share on wound care as he is really suffering? Best regards,

I'm really sorry to hear about your father's struggles, Stacie. While Andrew Huberman from the podcast hasn't provided specific guidance on the complex situation you described, there's discussion around therapies that might be beneficial for wound healing and reducing inflammation, which could be relevant.

One approach mentioned by is the use of red and near-infrared light therapy. These therapies have been shown to improve skin health and promote wound healing by enhancing cellular function and reducing inflammation. The specific wavelengths of light can aid in faster muscle recovery, reducing pain, and improving mitochondrial function 1 2.

Moreover, he also stresses the critical role of sleep in overall health, including immune system function and wound healing, as sleep is fundamental to skin health and recovery 3. Optimizing sleep and possibly considering light therapy could support your father's recovery, but it's crucial to consult his healthcare provider to ensure these approaches are suitable for his specific medical conditions.
