    Relocation

    The Wallach family's move from Mexico to the Bay Area in 1977 was prompted by rising anti-Semitism. Ari recalls the urgency of the move, with armed guards at their Jewish day school and an attack on their synagogue 3. His father, having experienced similar threats in Europe, decided to relocate the family swiftly.

    Within two weeks, we moved. Didn't sell the business, didn't sell the house. Kind of gave everything over to other people to take care of. Moving trucks came at two in the morning. No one knew.
